Ads

I had a hard time finding a commercial that promotes drinking of underage students in college. This is not allowed. But that is what people think of when they think of Frat Boys. The more I thought about it, I do remember an incident where two commercials on bill boards totally related to the other. It is the bill boards on Holdredge St. and Y St. right before the overpass. around my Sophomore semester I was driving back to campus from class over on East campus and I saw the two bill boards. One of the boards was an Ad for a beer company and the other was from the Lancaster Police. The Police one was a picture of a cop outside of his car and it said "You are entering a heavily DUI enforced area". I just think that this is funny because there is an ad right next to it promoting drinking (not to driving or underage) and one that demotes drinking.

Site About my Topic

It is hard to find a site that is just dedicated to the current stereotypes of college Fraternities. There are so many trends that individual house show and these are not the same for every college. The best site that I can think of would be college humor. This site is dedicated to the posting of picture, articles, and movies of college life. The majority of these postings are frats doing stupid things on camera. You have guys drinking till they puke and get marker bitched, girls doing stupid things to get attention from the guys. The fact is that frats have a problem with image, for some reason it is hard for them to keep it positive. It could be the fact that the stupid things they do in privacy still get out. If you browse through some of the posts with Greek letters on them, it will be hard to see something that would give a positive image toward the Greeks. One can only look at the photos and think of new stereotypes to give the people who I believe keep this campuse in charge.

10 Identity Issues

1) Texan – People from Texas are known as a cowboy, or a hick. That is not the case for me. I am from a large town outside of Houston. I have no twang in my voice or accent that people hear. The only obvious tell that I give away is that I say “Ya’ll” when I talk to more than two people.

2) Male – Males are supposed to be stronger, bigger and in charge. Society has deemed men to be the main role in life. However this is not how thing are becoming. Women are becoming more sustainable in the world than before and they are not as dependent on males. This is one thing that I do not mind. I personally do not care if I am the bread bearer or not. If I can stay home I would, cook, clean, kids. These are not problems to me.

3) Greek (system) – Greeks are known for drinking, partying, sex, drug, and grades. The thing with this identity is that it does explain me for the first 2 years of my college career.

4) Student – A student in college is known like greeks to go out and drink, and party. However there are student who only study all the time and never have a social life.

5) Single – When you think of a single person, you think of a person going out and trying to met another and form a relationship with. This is not what I am trying to do. At this point of my life I don’t have the time or effort to put into a relationship. Therefore I do not fall under the norm of single people.

6) Asian – Most people when they think of Asian’s they think of smart kids, who always bring home A’s and they have narrower eyebrows. This is not near the way that I am. I don’t have great grades and I do not show the physical attributes that most Asian’s do.

7) Smoker – People who smoke seem to have been deemed dirty in society. The media and government has turned a thing that they recommended to people against them. Most of the time I hide my habit from people that I think highly of or do not trust. Only my friends and people who have seen me smoke I feel comfortable around doing so.

8) Employed – I work for the university in the copy center. I make most of the books that teachers have made through the book store and for the extended education program. Most people who work are to busy to go out and have fun. This is not the case with me, I make time to get out and have fun, but I still work and go to school.
